Welcome Imagineers! My name is Brittany Ballou and I am a K-5 STEAM Teacher at Grange Hall Elementary in Chesterfield County Public Schools, which is a suburb of Richmond, Virginia. I have been teaching for a total of 6 years - 2 years 5th grade teacher, 2 years 4th and 5th grade math/science gifted teacher, and I am currently in my second year as a K-5 STEAM Teacher. I moved to Chesterfield County to start their Elementary School STEAM Program. As a STEAM Teacher we helped to write the curriculum and build the program from the ground up. I started with a blank slate, which provided an amazing opportunity to truly make the program my own.
I received my undergraduate degree from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia in 2013 where I majored in Biology, minored in Elementary Education, and graduated from the Honors Program. I received my K-12 Gifted Education Endorsement from James Madison University in 2016.
I believe in ditching worksheets and getting students collaborating through hands-on STEM/STEAM lessons. I teach through the engineering design cycle with project based learning. My passion is getting students and teachers excited about learning and stretching their imaginations to solve real-life problems. Along with teaching students, I love working with teachers whether it’s sitting down one-on-one to plan, running a faculty meeting, or presenting at conferences. Teachers can learn so much from one another!
